When I bought it, my car was bone stock except for a replaced clutch. Too bad a non-stock clutch puts you into Street Prepared, running with people with race tires and aftermarket suspension. First thing I did to my car was intake, exhaust, and chip, plus the boost jets. That's the first thing you do to nearly any import, right? Too bad changing the ECU puts you into Street Mod 2, with the real monster cars. I still had my stock shocks. One of the next mods I plan for my car is some chassis bracing. Too bad that will bump me out of SM2 and put me into Modified, running with the go carts with wings the size of my desk here at work. For imports, SCCA's rules are really messed up. And it is full of existing members who will defend their turf, their cars that they have built to a specific set of rules, to the death. I refuse to build my car to a set of rules that is completely non-optimal for my car. I say, let SCCA die. Join NASA instead. This year, I will be running in SATCAR. It looks fantastic to me! I am really excited for it. (As the others have said, clubs under SCCA run a fine HPDE program. But in my opinion, joining a BMW or Porche club will give you even better HPDE experiences.)
